RANKING DREAMCATCHER SOLO SONGS IN APOCALYPSE SAVE US

Dreamcatcher's latest comeback with their title track Maison is a really special one for me and probably for most Insomnias and the members themselves. This is the era when they finally got their long overdue first music show win. I almost cried watching their first win moment, I really think the members deserved it so much. 

This comeback was a full album which contains a solo song for each member. I have to start by mentioning that I really enjoyed the album all the songs are high quality and I have been listening to the album on repeat ever since its release. This is not surprising as I have always enjoyed all Dreamcatcher albums. My personal favorite non-solo song is Starlight, I really recommend this song if you want to listen to a good K-pop b-side. This is a no-skip album in my opinion so you probably won't regret listening to the whole album really.

Since the album has a solo song for each member that the members participated in making themselves, we get to see everyone's unique music color. I find this really fascinating and I found that their solo songs fit each and everyone of them really well. All the songs are well made and I found it hard to pick a favorite solo song as their songs are of different genre and style. So, I decided to torture myself by ranking the solo songs in this album. Just know that I really enjoyed every single one of their solos and this was really challenging for me. This will be my subjective opinion according to my music taste, I can see all the songs being placed number 1 if another person were to rank their solos. With that being said, I will attempt to rank their solo songs now..

7. No Dot - Sua

This song suits Sua so much, it really makes sense that this is her solo. I love her vocals in this song she did a great job with the high notes. Also we got rapper Sua back! She did an amazing job. I personally don't really enjoy empty loud choruses, this is purely my subjective taste. This is a really well made song though and people who enjoy this type of music will probably really like this song. 

6. Winter - Handong

This is such a beautiful song and I always enjoy listening to it. I love how the last part of the song is an acapella in Mandarin, making the song more meaningful for Handong. I think Handong did a really great job vocal-wise, it's refreshing to hear her voice for the entire song as she usually gets very little lines in Dreamcatcher songs. I put this song so low because I find the instrumental to be really simple which makes it less memorable for me. I also personally like it when songs have more layers instrumentally. Regardless, it is still an incredibly beautiful song.

5. Playground - Gahyeon

This is a cute cheerful song which really suits Gahyeon. It's also refreshing to hear Gahyeon sing this way in a song as she usually sings with a deeper voice in Dreamcatcher songs. This is a nice feel good song. I ranked it this low because I don't like songs that are too cheerful and yes this is purely my subjective taste. I also find that Gahyeon is not that strong of a vocalist compared to some other members which I think affected this song's ranking slightly. Still an incredible song regardless.

4. Beauty Full - Dami

I love the rock instrumental of this song, this song gives off rock star Dami which suits her really well. It's nice to hear Dami sing this much. I put this song here because I find that Dami is also not that strong of a vocalist compared to some of the other members. Vocals play a part in my ranking this time around because all the songs are so good and it's really hard to rank them, so I have to be nit-pick slightly.

3. For - Yoohyeon

I love this concept for Yoohyeon, she really suits it. I'm obsessed with her vocals in this song, she did an incredible job, to be expected from Dreamcatcher's lead vocalist. I also have to appreciate that this song is fully in English, it's harder to write songs in a language that's not your first language. She is such a hard worker. I don't usually like jazzy songs, but her vocals really made me rank this song this high. This proves how good this song and her vocals are as she made me like a song from a genre I don't typically enjoy.

2. Cherry (Real Miracle) - Jiu

This is an adorable song, I can't believe Jiu made her solo song about her dog. I know I said I usually don't like songs that are too cheerful, but I don't know why I just love this song so much. I find this song to be stuck in my head very often. It's a really catchy song and it suits Jiu really well. I love hearing Jiu's soft vocals throughout the entire song. The instrumentals are really nice and the melody of the chorus is really catchy.

1. Entrancing - Siyeon

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard, Siyeon's vocals really did things to me, I still get goosebumps listening to this song. I can listen to this song all day and not get bored because the vocals are just so beautiful. Ballads are usually not my favorite genre, I don't dislike it but I do prefer listening to other genres. But this song is that good that it's my favorite solo. The instrumentals are also really pretty which complements Siyeon's soft but powerful vocals really well. This song is an 11/10 for me, I encourage everyone, even those who don't like ballads to listen to this song because it's just that good.

That concludes my ranking of Dreamcatcher solo songs in their Apocalypse Save Us album. I like that they did this for their second full album, it switches things up a bit and we get to see each member's music color. I hope they will continue to do it in their third full album. For now, let's all enjoy the masterpiece that is this album.
