RANKING SEVENTEEN TITLE TRACKS
Since I have ranked the title tracks of my other ult groups (Dreamcatcher and Monsta X), I have to rank Seventeen's title tracks too as they are my other ult. I'm still in awe at the fact that Woozi composes most of Seventeen's songs, not only is he a talented singer and dancer, her is also a talented song writer and composer. I like the majority of Seventeen's title tracks so this is going to be challenging. I will be including their Japanese title tracks too.
These are
just my subjective opinions so you can respectfully disagree. I don’t have
background knowledge in music, I am just someone who enjoys music and doing
this just for fun. I also didn’t take into account the lyrics in the songs as I
am someone who can enjoy music without knowing the meaning of the songs and I
don’t understand Korean. Without further ado, I will start ranking Seventeen title tracks.
23. Getting Closer
This song is not bad by any means but it was just very weird to
see Seventeen releasing this type of song. This is one of the Seventeen title
tracks that is more rap heavy, and I personally didn’t enjoy it as much. I personally
think Seventeen’s rap line aren’t the strongest (well my other boy group ult is
Monsta X and they have Jooheon and Changkyun. I can’t believe I somehow talk
about how good they are in a post that’s not about Monsta X). The vocals in the
bridge is beautiful but the noisy drop disappointed me.
22. Power of Love
This is also not a bad song, but I personally don’t gravitate to
songs that are too slow or songs that are ballad-like. I also find the post
chorus to be a bit out of place. It’s nice to see everyone sing in this song
though, they all did a great job.
21. Hit
Hit is a perfect workout song. It’s a
catchy song, I was just underwhelmed by the empty chorus. The pre-chorus is
really good so I was disappointed by the chorus. I’m not too fond of empty choruses and
songs that are too noisy. The choreography for this song looks incredibly
tiring to perform, props to the members for performing with such high energy
during promotions.
20. Don’t Wanna Cry
This song is good and easy to digest, but I personally got bored
of this song pretty quickly. It kind of sounds like Chainsmokers song (which is
not a compliment in my book), it just sounds very generic and I don’t hear
Seventeen’s signature style of sound in this song. It’s a decent song though.
19. Not Alone
This is a nice chill and happy song with really nice vocals. I
somehow didn’t find this song to be very interesting to listen to, this is
purely just my subjective taste.
18. Oh My
This is such an adorable song, I love the cute instrumentals, the
vocals and also the rap parts. I love the choreography to the intro with Wonwoo
controlling the members, it’s just so cute. With that being said, I don’t find
myself wanting to listen to this song, I guess I just prefer their other songs.
This is a good song though.
17. Fear
I actually really like this song and the songs ranked above it, so it is pretty challenging to rank order them. This is another unexpected sound from Seventeen, it took a few
listens for me to like this song. I really like the song now. The vocals in
this song sounds great though. It’s also nice to see a different side of Seventeen.
Also I’m addicted to watching Dino fancams from this era, he's such a good performer (I promise I'm not a hard stan).
16. Call Call Call
This is such a great Japanese debut; the song is upbeat and catchy like the Seventeen most people know and love. I love the electric guitar in the song and the vocals in the chorus is amazing as expected from Seungkwan and DK. Minghao’s part in the bridge is so good. I found this song to be a bit too fast for my liking, but I still really like it.
15. Happy Ending
Another good song by Seventeen, no surprises here. The vocals by Woozi, DK and Seungkwan sound so powerful and beautiful. The bridge is one the highlights of this song in my opinion. I found the post chorus a bit too repetitive, which is probably why I ranked it this low.
14. Falling Flower
This is such a pretty song, I love the build up in the verses for
the rap parts which then transitions to the powerful vocals in the first pre-chorus.
I love how they changed up the second pre-chorus, it keeps the song interesting
to listen to. I put it this low because personally I don’t gravitate to this
kind of song, but I still think this song is really nice.
13. Boom Boom
This is such a fun catchy song, I love the funny music video and how
the choreography incorporates their jacket. This song has one of my favorite
rap parts in Seventeen title tracks, S Coups and Vernon did a great job. The
vocals in the chorus is amazing, the post chorus let me down a bit though, I don’t
hate it though. Dino’s rap in the bridge shook me to the core, he did so well and I
personally love his rapping tone (can you tell who my Seventeen bias is yet).
12. Aju Nice
The iconic never-ending encore song. This is a very catchy upbeat song with really nice instrumentals. I love Dino and Vernon's rap. I thought Jeonghan's part in the bridge is a bit weird, but I'm used to it now. Other than that I have no complaints about the song.
A sentimental EDM song from Seventeen, I though I wouldn't like it as much so I'm pleasantly surprised that I ended up liking it so much. This song doesn't sound generic like Don't Wanna Cry, I really like the build up in the verses to the drop in the chorus and the instrumentals are so beautiful. I also love the choreography, Seventeen always takes advantage of their numbers to create such really nice and interesting choreography.
*In Jooheon's voice* "BAKSU". This is also a catchy upbeat song, Seventeen does this type of songs the best in my opinion. I love the build up in the pre-chorus and the electric guitar throughout the song. The song is really catchy and easy to listen to. I love everything about this song.
9. Rock with You
Rock with You is another great song, I love the rock elements in
this song. For some reason this song kind of reminds me of Happy Ending, but an
upgraded version. Mingyu’s part in the first verse is sooo good and addicting,
I know Woozi did it in the second verse, but for some reason Mingyu doing it
hits different. The vocals in the bridge is so beautiful, overall the only
thing wrong with this comeback is the fact that Jun and Minghao didn’t join
promotions.
8. Home
A catchy chill sentimental song, I find this song really interesting. I love how minimalistic many parts of the song is so we get to appreciate the vocals a lot more, but we also get parts with fuller instrumentals. The vocals in this song is just top tier, I really enjoyed them all. This song deserves to be the song that got the most music show win for Seventeen.
7. Ready to Love
This song is slightly different from the usual Seventeen sound that I'm familiar with, but it's still really nice. I love the vocals especially the adlibs in the final chorus. I also really like the pre-chorus, it's really catchy. The melody of the chorus is also really nice. Even though this song is not like the usual Seventeen title track, I still really enjoy it.
6. Mansae
This is the first Seventeen music video I saw and I really love it. The song is super fun and the music video is cute and funny. I love the instrumental in the verses, the rap parts in this song are also really nice, the melody of the chorus is really nice and catchy. I love everything about this song.
5. Left and Right
I love the music video and the super catchy and simple choreography for this song. I love the rock instrumental plus some additional trumpet sounds. I also love the powerful vocals in the pre-chorus. This is just an iconic comeback overall, everything is perfect. I really struggled putting this in the ranking, I don't even know if I like this song more than Home Run, but I'll settle with this position to not give myself a headache.
4. Home Run
I love the Broadway vibes of this song and the choreography complementing it very well. It's really catchy and upbeat like most Seventeen title tracks, but this song somehow has a more mature feeling to it, which I really enjoy. I love the instrumental, the rap parts in this song and the vocals in the bridge. I really love this comeback, Seventeen really had solid Korean comebacks in 2020 with Left and Right and Home Run.
3. Adore U
This is such an amazing debut song, Seventeen really came a long way. I love how Seventeen have already established their own signature style at their debut, this debut really set a nice path for the direction of Seventeen's future songs. I love the rock instrumental in this song, the vocals are amazing. Seungkwan and DK are really strong vocalists even since debut. The only thing I don't like about this song is the fact that Jeonghan's voice isn't in the studio version of this song.
The song that got them their well deserved first win, this is such a great song, I'm glad the Korean public started noticing them because of their good music and unique choreography right when their company was on the verge of bankruptcy. This song has a special place in my heart. I love how they incorporated the couch in their choreography for this song. I have to commend his creativity. Vernon's rap transitioning to Seungkwan in the pre-chorus is just so beautiful. We also got Seungkwan's iconic high notes at the last chorus. The instrumentals are also very catchy and interesting. Everything about this song is perfect to me.
Like the other title track rankings I did, this was difficult for me because I love the majority of Seventeen's title tracks. Once again props to Woozi for writing and composing the majority of Seventeen's discography. On another note, I saw that many of the members recently got sick, I hope they all rest well so they can get well soon. Thanks for reading and stay safe and healthy!
